Introducing: The V-Spot Valentine's Day Recipe Series

by caroline

Today is the first installment in our V-Spot Valentine's Day Recipe Series, and we figured why not start it off with a treat that's a cinch to make? So, we're making Chocolate-Dipped Cookie Hearts!

Note: These babies are not for the allergen at heart, so make 'em for someone who can munch on treats of all sorts. I'm making these to include with a card for a few of my gal pals — they look cutie-patootie in a holiday-themed cellophane bag or box.

As a side note, when I handle ingredients that contain gluten, I wear disposable gloves because the allergens often make my skin itchy if I touch a food item that contains them. I also wash, wash, wash my hands, and prepare an area that is completely free of clutter, so that I can thoroughly wipe it down when I am finished.

So, here's the recipe. I picked up the cookies at McGinnis Sisters yesterday and thought they were perfect for this experiment!

Chocolate-Dipped Cookie Hearts

**You will need a slotted spoon and baking sheet. Wax or parchment paper is optional.

Unwrap Hershey's Kisses and place in a small pot. Turn heat on low. Once chocolate begins melting, stir consistently with a whisk. When it has completely melted to a liquid, turn heat off. (If at any time during the process, the chocolate begins to solidify, heat on low and whisk until melted again). Begin to add cookies to the chocolate. Once they are completely covered, remove each one individually with a slotted spoon and place on a cookie sheet. (You can line the cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper for an easier clean up.) Continue adding cookies until all of the chocolate has been used or cookie sheet has been filled. Press an M&M into the center of the hearts (I only added one to about 3/4 of the hearts for variety). Put cookie sheet in freezer or refrigerator to solidify the chocolate.

Once chocolate is solid, remove hearts from cookie sheet with a rubber spatula and store in an airtight container. Repeat above process if necessary until all melted chocolate has been used. Refrigerate prepared chocolates until ready to use.

I am going to place my treats in a special Valentine's Day-themed box and tie it with a pretty ribbon. Be sure to line a box or gift bag with cellophane or parchment paper to separate the chocolate from its container.
