Just Sign Me Up for the Circusby caroline
I did it! Last night I had the opportunity to try an aerial fitness class at Femme Fatale for a story I am working on for the local paper.
It. Was. A. Blast.
I can’t go into tons and tons of detail because I have to save it for the story, but I will tell you this: Aerial fitness is fun! At first I was nervous (and felt a bit like a circus performer), but once I got the hang of it, I started to have a lot of fun.
First lesson I learned: Don’t be fooled by how easy and graceful the instructors make this stuff look when demonstrating. It’s tough stuff! I tried to look pretty for the photos (after all, they’re going to be published), but in reality I am sweating bullets up there. It takes a ton of arm and leg strength it takes to hold yourself up. I was beat by the end of class!
When I first started, I was a bit worried about my calf, but it ended up being OK. I probably relied a bit too much on my right leg, but it was worth it in order to try the class. Everything was very low-impact anyway (some of the stretching actually felt good on my bum leg) — I was more preoccupied with all of the twisting, turning and wrapping that was goin’ on!
If you’re looking for a bit of spice in your exercise life (and always had aspirations of being a trapeze artist), then I would definitely recommend you try aerial fitness.
By the end of class, I was working on perfecting my routine and felt ready to take on more. Maybe there really is a circus career in my future …
QUESTION FOR YOU:
What’s a new fitness trend you’ve tried? Like it/hated it?
