Outrageously Good.by caroline
I love a nice lil’ buffet of food. In fact, one of my all-time favorite things about the holidays is that it is perfectly acceptable to pile as many different kinds of food onto a single plate as you see fit.
So, when the good folks at Outrageous Baking sent me some “samples” (I wish grocery store samples were of this magnitude!) of their wonderful gluten-free quick breads, I was delighted by the ability to create a delicious-looking spread.
Pamela, the owner of the totally fab Boulder, Colorado-based company, also sent along a gluten-free baking mix that I can’t wait to try during one of my upcoming baking experiments.
Anyway, back to the food. My sister, Amanda, and I set up a little spread at her house and got to work with trying the breads — Pumpkin, Chocolate Zucchini, Lemon Poppy Seed, Cinnamon Coffee Cake and a not-yet-released-on-the-Website flavor, Cranberry Orange. I was excited to have my sister along for the tasting trip because I always like to have a second opinion.
Let me just start by saying that this bread is without a doubt the best store bought gluten-free baked good that I have ever had. I have made plenty of gluten-free quick breads of my own (like Banana Pumpkin Chocolate Chip and Whole Grain Apple Cinnamon) and these breads definitely rank up there with some of the ones that I ♥ the most.
The texture is smooth and not crumbly like some of the other breads I have tried. The breads are moist and the flavors are right on point. I swear they could fool even the most doubtful of all doubters (you know — the ones who think everything gluten-free is sick-o). OMGtheyarejustsofreakinggood.
Oddly enough, my sister and I were divided on our favorites. She was leaning more toward the Chocolate Zucchini or Cinnamon Coffee Cake and I was a HUGE fan of the Lemon Poppy Seed and Pumpkin (duh).
I am so happy to have had an opportunity to try these breads. I will without a doubt be ordering some of these for special occasions and I may even send some to a few lucky friends. And if I ever make a trip to Colorado … well, then I know exactly where my first stop will be.
Thank you, Outrageous Baking!!
