The Green Goblin. Or Something …

Hi there, I'm the Green Monster's bigger brother. Nice to meet-chya.

You can whip me up and juice me real nice in any juicer, but my creator uses her Breville Juice Fountain to get me going.

Uh … OK … enough with the creepy juice talk! :)

I have been juicing off and on for years, and have recently been re-inspired to do so mostly in part to my current read, Crazy Sexy Diet (loooove this book).

There are several kinds of juicers out there and they vary by type (centrifugal, twin gear or masticating). My Breville is a centrifugal juicer. Each one has its pros and cons, and you just have to find the one that works best for you. One of the benefits of the centrifugal juicer is that you can put larger pieces of veggies and fruit in without having to chop them up as you do with a masticating juicer. Again, it's your choice!

Here's what my list of ingredients looks like for Classic Green Juice. You will find similar recipes in several health books, including CSD, The Raw Food Detox Diet and most juicing books:

  • 2 cucumbers
  • 2 broccoli stems (save the crowns for yummy roasted broccoli!)
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1 romaine lettuce heart
  • 6 kale stalks
  • 14-15 parsley sprigs
  • a 1 – 1 1/2 inch chunk of ginger, peeled
  • 1 pear
  • 1 apple

Juice all ingredients. This batch didn't fit entirely into this 32 oz. Mason jar, so I just poured myself a glass. So, I would say this makes 32 oz. – 40 oz. of juice. Store juice in an airtight container for 1-2 days.
