No Chatting — Just Give Me Food.

by caroline

I’m not exactly what you’d call a morning person. Sure, I get up early and get my groove on with a workout or writing project, but talking and interacting with me is not something I would recommend right from the get-go. For some reason, I just need a little time to … adjust.

But one thing that gets me super-excited about waking up is knowing I get to try something new for breakfast. Woot! I might not like conversation or people, but food can always get me going. :)

This morning it wasn’t exactly “food” that had me excited, but my brand-spanking new protein powder:

(Sorry for the not-so-nice phone pics this morning. I was being lazy and opted to not break out the camera.)

This guy comes from Vibrant Health, one of my favorite health product lines. I’ve talked before about how much I love this company and it’s because the ingredients in their products are whole, healthful and just make sense. I picked this one up last night after noticing that the proteins in this powder are from plant sources rather than soy, whey or egg. Instead, rice, pea, spirulina and alfalfa proteins make up this blend, in addition to other healthy ingredients, like amino acids. The powder is gluten-free, vegan and egg-free, and serves up 20 grams of clean green vegetable protein per serving.

I tossed a scoop into the blender with:

  • 1-1/2 Tablespoons flaxseed meal
  • 3/4 cup frozen mixed berries
  • a handful of spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

Blend and enjoy!

Don’t worry: This drink doesn’t taste at all the way it looks (i.e. like poop something gross). The combination of greens and fruits makes for a nasty color, but delicious taste. This was my first time trying this powder and I really like it. The vanilla flavoring is subtly sweet, and the powder is not too harsh or grainy. Definitely a win!

Tell us: What breakfast gets you going in the morning?
